MusicPosted by Miss BB Oct 17, 2009 10:16:22 So much going on right now, no time to write, but this song deserves a few lines.
There used to be this brilliant British band called Komakino, and there was this song called Shotgun Valentine that I adored.
So Komakino are no more but reformed as You Animals quite a while ago. And now You Animals just released Shotgun Valentine as their brandnew single, well the song might not be brandnew, but the recording is new and the song is as great as it always was.
And the best, you can get it for free, (and a second song as well). Go to www.musicglue.com/youanimals and get Shotgun Valentine and Western Bridge.
And if you want to listen to the song first, check out their video to my favourite Komakino/You Animals song.
Last night was the last time i wanted to see you - my Shotgun Valentine.....
Oh and I am in love love love with the new NO MORE ENCORE record, We are the Warriors, totally different to You Animals but still I love the boys! Austria has pretty good music to offer, oh yes!
MusicPosted by Miss BB Aug 30, 2009 13:54:49 Brilliant last few weeks, a great Picture On, amazing Frequency and the best gig I have seen in ages, The Get Up Kids still rock, it was brilliant brilliant brilliant. and then the news I got on Saturday,.. wait a few days a you will know more!!!
But here something else, This City, the lovely guys from Brighton just released a new video to their upcoming single We Move (the song was already released some time ago, but now that they were signed to Epitaph the song gets a rerelease in a new version). Their debut record will be out later this year. And as their gig at this years Frequency proved, they are amazing, brilliant; just what you need in a band, good danceable songs, guys with lots of tattoos on stage. The perfect band for a girl like me!!!
MusicPosted by Miss BB Aug 10, 2009 16:59:06 It wont be any news to you that I love Paul Banks and his band Interpol. Yes, I am obessed with their music (and ok with the guy as well).
So when I learned that Paul will release a solo record I was more than excited, but the first song I heard, no I wasnt too impressed!
But the record Julian Plenti is Skyscraper is brilliant, it works as a record, the songs are great, his voice is - what should I say- I love it, lots of violins and trumpets, slightly strange but I love the record.
Here a brilliant video to Games For Days. If the girl in the video seems to be familiar, yes she is, it is Emily Haines from the brilliant Canadian band Metric.
I waiting for a tour and lots and lots of Paul!!! The record is OUT NOW! Go and get it!
ShowsPosted by Miss BB Jul 27, 2009 14:41:41 The decision is made, train tickets booked, hotel booked, ticket ordered!!!
So I am going to see the great Get Up Kids in Munich end August! It was a hard decision where to go to go and see them, lots of great locations but stupid dates! But as I had no other choice than see them (for my own happiness!), I decided to go for the Munich date.
It has been ages I fell in love with this band, and now I am excited, soo looking forward to hear all those brilliant songs live again.
*Out of reach is one of my favourite Get Up Kids songs from their legendary record Something to write home about!
MusicPosted by Miss BB Jul 21, 2009 19:35:48 Each year around this time the nominees for the British Mercury Prize are announced, and so today this year's were made public.
For those of you that never heard about this prize, here a short information. The Mercury Prize is one of Great Britain and Ireland's biggest awards to promote records of the last year. It was founded in 1992 to be a alternative to the record industry dominated Britawards. Nominees get chosen by a panel of music journalists, musicians, music executives,... The price carries a value of 20.000 British Pound, quite a lot of money for "poor" musicians. The winners in the last years were bands like, Elbow, Klaxon, Arctic Monkeys, Anthony and the Johnsons, Franz Ferdinand.
So here are the nominees for this year's award show that will be held on September 8th:
Bat For Lashes – Two Suns
Friendly Fires – Friendly Fires
Florence and The Machine – Lungs
Glasvegas – Glasvegas
The Invisible – The Invisible
Lisa Hannigan – Sea Sew
The Horrors – Primary Colours
Kasabian – West Rider Lunatic Pauper Asylum
La Roux – La Roux
Led Bib – Sensible Shoes
Speech Debelle – Speech Therapy
Sweet Billy Pilgrim – Twice Born Men
Ok, I know lots of the bands but some of them I have not even heard of??? Guess I missed something. But who is Led Bib or Speech Debelle? Or Sweet Billy Pigrim?? The Invisibles? or Lisa Hannigan? Should I know this bands??
But from what the bookmakers say it will be Kasabian vs. Florence and The Machine. Guess I would chose Friendly Fires.
MusicPosted by Miss BB Jul 21, 2009 18:46:18 I love love love Cave In, guess I've mentioned the band before. But now finally, after being on a hiatus for quite a while and focusing on other musical projects (Clouds, Stephen's solo stuff, Doomriders, Zozobra,...) the four guys from Boston found back together and released an EP with the wonderful name Planets of Old.
As it is only released on 12'' vinyl in the US for now, and not even available on itunes (at least not now), you still can listen to the EP.
Just go to planetsofold.com and listen to the four songs (and buy Retina Sees Rewind, the single on itunes, even availble on Austrian Itunes.)
And I am going to figure out where to order one of the different colored versions of the 12''. Does ll Natural Vanilla Pistachio Ice Creams or Green Tea Frozen Yogurt seems to be the better color? Or Pyrite? but I would be happy with the black one as well :-)
I want the boys back in Europe!!! Cave In Tour PLEASE!!!
FestivalsPosted by Miss BB Jul 21, 2009 16:57:38 We are already in the middle of this year’s festival season with two of the huge ones (Nova Rock and Nuke) and lots of smaller ones are already over, but there is lots more to come this summer. Of course there is the Frequency, in St.Pölten for the first time; I love that because I can go to my mum’s or granny’s place to sleep. The line-up just got amazing, Bloc Party, Kasabian, Editors, Rival Schools, Enter Shikari, The Subways – these are some of the bands I am looking forward too (and yes, lots of you are excited about Radiohead.). Oh and don’t forget the electronic acts at the Night Park – I only ask myself if I need a place to sleep at all, or if I keep dancing for three days non-stop ☺
But actually I prefer the smaller festivals, just a few hundred to maximal a few thousand people. Two Days a Week in Wiesen (first weekend of September) should be great (Funeral for Friend!!!), the Groove Cocktail Festival at the Strombauamt in Greifenstein this coming weekend – a really lovely venue, really familär, just next to the Donau, NICE, just hope there will be more people than at the Auradau; The Indie Project Festival at the Ottakringer Brauerei on August 1st with all those Austrian bands.
But what I am really looking forward to is the Picture On in Bildein, Burgenland. I have never been there, but I got told the venue is lovely. And so is the line-up. I am excited, excited, excited. Why? Cause it will be my chance to finally see Life of Agony again. I saw them like 15 years ago when they were supporting Prong at the Rockhaus in Vienna (yes, it has been ages), and I saw Keith Caputo, their singer, last autumn in Krems, but I haven’t been around when Life of Agony played in Vienna last year. I am still in love with their River Runs Red record from 1993, Keith’s voice and all the energy in their music. My sister even went into the mosh pit at their last Vienna show and loved every second of it. So it should be fun to watch her ☺ But it is not only Life of Agony, the other bands are not that bad either ☺ Friday brings you Guano Apes , I AM X (Chris Corner is always great!!!), Mad Caddies (always fun), Justin Sullivan(from New Model Army), Les Babacools, Tanz Baby! Ramazuri and Saturday – Life of Agony, Caliban, Slut (jipiii!), Superbutt, Mystery Gang, Zeronic (so many memories with that band), Rising Girl (how I hate their hitsong with the same name from a few years back ☺), Ocho Macho.
So, where are going to be at August 7th and 8th?? Yes, in Bildein, at the Picture On. I will be there, well at least on Saturday.
MusicPosted by Miss BB Jul 17, 2009 21:33:13 No More Encoreare back! It has been ages since the boys from Perchtoldsdorf provided us with new songs. They locked themselves in their studio and worked for 1,5 years on their upcoming record.
We are the Warriors will be released some when this autumn, but to ease waiting time till then, No More Encore are giving away the first single Our World on Display for free.
Just click on the picture and download Our World on Display for free, or go to their myspace site and listen to it. BUT don’t be alarmed, when listen to it. It is really different from what we are used from the boys. I was kind of shocked at first, had no idea what to think about the song and actually did not like it at all, but it grew on me. It got better and better everytime I listen to it. And yes, it is brilliant summer song, and it is such a catchy tune that I can’t stop singing it.
I miss the guitars and the rockier tunes though. I would prefer the song with their usual more poppunkier sound. But it was their plan to try something new, and they did. And from what I’ve heard We are the Warriors will bring back the rockier sounds. Have I mentioned I love the artwork! It is just amazing, love the pink/blue combination, love the twirl things, love love love it! well done!
(Oh and the boys will be part of one leg of the Punk is Dead tour joining Guadalajara, Jerx and Ohrbooten on tour through Austria this autumn, so we can see them live again and listen to their new songs.)
EventsPosted by Miss BB Jul 13, 2009 23:37:26 I am still singing, even two days after the show I still have a smile on my face (or is this because it seems it is finally summer?) and nice tunes in my head. I loved the Morrissey show at the Gasometer last Saturday. The „old“ man just does a great job on stage. I don’t care if the show was routine, like lots of reviews stated, what do expect, he is one tour for months now; as long as he does his job, I am fine with the routine, and he did a great job.
A hit set full of his songs and the amazing songs by the Smiths, an amazing band and in my opinion a really good sound considering that it was the Gasometer (and once again, everyone complained about the sound, actually I think I never heard such a good sound at the Gasometer, and yes, obviously it could have been better, but I wont complain.
Oh and shirt count – four, at least that is what I counted, two black ones, a white one and a turquoise one in the end. I missed a pink one though. His band wasn’t dress bad either, simple white shirts and bow ties, a little nerdish look, I loved that. (ok I love men in shirts anyway)
And obviously I missed something – I wanted to hear There is a light that never goes out, I just love that song, so here for you, the brilliant song by the Smiths originally from 1986. Enjoy!
